Adele BarkerPh.D., Professor, Russian and Slavic
Dr. Barker is a Professor of Russian and Slavic Studies. She specializes in Soviet and post-Soviet popular culture and in Soviet women's fiction. Among her books are The Mother Syndrome in the Russian Folk Imagination (Slavica, 1986), and Dialogues/Dialogi: Literary and Cultural Exchanges between (ex) Soviet and American Women (Duke Univ. Press, 1994), co-authored with Susan Aiken, Maya Koreneva and Ekaterina Stetsenko. She is the editor of Consuming Russia: Popular Culture, Sex and Society since Gorbachev (Duke Univ Press, 1999) and with Jehanne Gheith of The Cambridge History of Women's Writing in Russia (Cambridge Univ Press, 2002). She is currently working on a book of creative non fiction on Sri Lanka and, with Professor Bruce Grant, editing The Russia Reader for Duke University Press.
