Anne H. BetteridgePh.D., Director, Center for Middle Easter Studies
Anne H. Betteridge is Director of the Center for Middle Eastern Studies and Associate Professor in the Department of Near Eastern Studies. She served as Executive Director of the Middle East Studies Association of North America (MESA) from 1990 through June 2002. An anthropologist with a Ph.D. from the University of Chicago, Dr. Betteridge has conducted research on Shi'i religious practices in Iran, and women's rituals in particular. She most recently visited Iran in spring 2007. Anne Betteridge is currently a member of the Academic Steering Committee of the Fares Center for Eastern Mediterranean Studies, Tufts University and on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Persianate Studies.
