Jill Guernsey de Zapien
Associate Dean for Community Programs, Mel & Enid Zuckerman Arizona College of Public Health

Jill Guernsey de Zapien is the Associate Dean for Community Programs and Coordinator for Community Technical Assistance at the Mel and Enid Zuckerman Arizona College of Public Health. With an academic professional appointment, Ms. de Zapien has been involved in community based public health interventions and research in Arizona and throughout the Southwest for twenty years. Her research has focused on a variety of border and binational projects including the Border Health Strategic Initiative, the Primary Health Care Review, the Ambos Nogales Binational Health and Environment Coalition Project and the Binational Diabetes and Cervical Cancer Projects. She collaborated with her colleagues at the University of Arizona to establish Arizona's first promotora program and is also a co-author with her colleagues from El Colegio de Sonora of Working Beyond Borders: A Handbook for Transborder Projects in Health. Today, as co-investigator at the Southwest Center for Community Health Promotion, the Reach 2010 Project, and the EXPORT Center, Ms. de Zapien partners with communities in the Southwest to develop strategies for eliminating health disparities and creating health equity.
