Esther FuchsPh.D., Professor of Judaic Studies at the Department of Near East Studies
Dr. Fuchs is an Associate Professor of Hebrew. Her research interests are Israeli feminist scholarship, Hebrew feminist literary criticism, feminist theory and the Bible, and Jewish Women's Studies. Among her publications are the books S.Y. Agnon's Irony (Tel Aviv University Press, 1985, in Hebrew), Israeli Women's Studies: A Reader (Rutgers University Press, 1985), Israeli Mythogynies: Women in Contemporary Hebrew Fiction (Albany State University of New York Press 1987), Women and the Holocaust: Narrative and Representation (University of America Press, 1999) and Sexual Politics in the Biblical Narrative: Reading the Hebrew Bible as a Woman (Sheffield, England: Sheffield Academic Press, 2000). Her forthcoming book is Reading Against the Grain: Feminist Scholarship on Jewish Sources (Jewish Publication Society).
