Barbara A. Gutek
Ph.D., Eller Professor of Women and Leadership, Department of Management and Organizations

Dr. Gutek is a McClelland Professor in the Department of Management and Policy. Her Ph.D. is from the University of Michigan (1975, specialization in organizational psychology). Among her research interests are women in management, sexual harassment, biases in performance evaluation, impacts of information technology, and service transactions. A fellow in the American Psychological Association and American Psychological Society, her research has been funded by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute of Mental Health. In 1992-1993, she was visiting professor at the California Institute of Technology, sponsored by the National Science Foundation. She has published over eighty articles and eleven books including Sex and the Workplace and Women's Career Development, and she was co-editor of the Women and Work series published by Sage. Her most recent book (1999) is Demographic Differences In Organizations: Current Research and Future Directions with Anne Tsui. Gutek has served as Newsletter Editor, Program Chair, and Chair, on several committees of the Women In Management (WIM) Division of the Academy of Management, Board of Governors, Academy of Management, was Secretary-Treasurer and President (1997-1998) of the Society for the Psychological Study of Social Issues. Consulting includes the Xerox Palo Alto Research Center, the Rand Corporation, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. She also serves as an expert witness in court cases in the areas of sex discrimination and sexual harassment.
