Women's Studies Affiliate Faculty
Geta LeSeurPh.D., Associate Professor, Departments of Africana Studies and English
Dr. Geta LeSeur is an Associate Professor of Africana Studies and English became a Faculty Affiliate in Women Studies spring 2003. LeSeur's research interests are anchored in African Diaspora studies, so her publications and teaching focusses on women writers of Africa, the Caribbean and the US. She has done much work on African writers Bessie Head, Buchi Emecheta, Caribbean writers Michelle Cliff, Beryl Gilroy, Jamaica Kincaid, and Paule Marshall. She also does single author courses on Toni Morrison, Gloria Naylor and Ntozake Shange.
Ongoing research and publications by Dr. LeSeur explores the themes of Motherhood, Coming of Age and, the impact of place on female formation. An additional interest is in the lives of Black migrant women and she is currently working on a monograph of three such women in the Casa Grande Valley (AZ). In addition to many essays in journals, LeSeur has two published books -- Ten is the Age of Darkness -- The Black Bildungsroman and Not all Okies are White: The Lives of Black Cotton Pickers in Arizona. The latter was selected as one of "The Best Books on the Southwest" for 2000.
