Sally J. Stevens, Ph.D.
Executive Director, Southwest Institute for Research on Women Sally J. Stevens is the Executive Director of the Southwest Institute for Research on Women (SIROW), a research institute within the Department of Women's Studies. Dr. Stevens conducts large-scale process and outcome research studies in the area of health disparities, substance abuse treatment, HIV and other infectious diseases, quality of life, mental health issues, and innovations in education. Much of her work has focused on Mexican-origin Hispanic and American Indian women, children and adolescents living in southwestern United States and the examination of cultural and gender issues that are specifically applicable to these racial-ethnic groups. Dr. Stevens has published numerous journal articles and has edited several special journal issues and books. Her most recent special issue in The Prison Journal (volume 85, #1, 2005) is titled "Treatment Issues of Drug and Criminally Involved Populations: Consideration of Gender, Age and Geographical Location".
