Kathy Powell
Program Coordinator, Sr. for WISE
Kathy is originally from the Ozarks in Missouri and has a BS
degree in Geological Engineering from the University of Missouri - Rolla
and an MS in Mining, Geological, and Geophysical Engineering from
the University of Arizona. She became interested in gender equity
and diversity issues while working in the mining industry for 5
years (between her degrees) as a geotechnical and environmental engineer.
The focus of her work with WISE is to increase the recruitment and
retention of women in science and engineering to ensure a future
pool of qualified and diverse scientists and engineers. Her outside
interests include archaeology, science fiction, roller derby, and
reading about exercise.
