Scholarship Available for a Woman in Science, Engineering or Mathematics
The Women in Science and Engineering (WISE) Program of The Department of Women's Studies and the Southwest Institute of Research on Women (SIROW) at the University of Arizona is accepting applications for a scholarship for the 2007-2008 school year.The Helen S. Schaefer Scholarship for women in Science, Engineering or Mathematics will award one scholarship of $500 based on the following criteria.
The Scholarship Selection Committee, which may consist of Dr. Helen Schaefer and members of the WISE Advisory Board, requests the following from applicants:
- All candidates for this scholarship are required to be female students in good standing entering their sophomore, junior or senior years of study at the University of Arizona with a major in Science, Engineering or Mathematics.
- The candidate must have a grade point average of 3.5 or better.
- Each candidate is required to submit an essay detailing her need and career goals and submit documentation of financial need (i.e., must fill out the Student Financial Aid Form through the a UA Financial Aid Office and submit a copy to us or a W-2 form if self-supported or from parents/guardian).
- Application form must be included with the application and must be completely filled out in ink or preferably typed.
- The award can be "renewed" but only by a new application and "competition" against other applicants.
- The award is only to be used for tuition and fee support.
- The award is subject to the approval of the Office of Student Financial Aid.
Application must be postmarked or hand-delivered by deadline.
